Read the comments!!!!! at the bottom and keep going back...

For example....
Who needs all these fancy titanium hammers and steel nails? Back when
I started woodworking we just used mortise & tenon joint and
dovetails. That’s what real carpenters did, and that’s what they still
do.

Ralph (trying to put things in perspective)

PS one of the neat things about this particular forum is the "hike
your own hike" perspective.

Speaking of hammers, I once took a light-weight plastic mallet I'd bought from Campmor, for driving tent stakes along in an area that I remembered as having a _very_ hard surface for getting tent stakes into the ground.

I got kidded and laughed at about the "unnecessary piece of junk" I brought along, until it turned out that each and every tent owner eventually came over and borrowed that mallet in order to erect their tent.

Then we discovered a cache of empty tin cans some slob campers had
left in a fairly large pile there in the wilderness, and the group decided to cart them all out. Guess what was used to smash those cans flat so we could do that? :^)

Cheers, Don L.

You used a tent stake hammer to smash cans?????
That is just wrong.
Of course you should have used a specialty can smashing hammer.

(waiting for someone to jump in and say "in my day we smashed cans
with our feet..... bare feet......hurt like hell but we did it
anyway....... can't trust them hammers....... )

But in this group with it's muliple use ethic, folks would probably
insist that the hammer also serve as a fire lighter, bear bag, spork,
rain hat, and river forder.

We used our foreheads to smash cans, and a good claw hammer can also be used to dig catholes.

Absolutely hilarious, good to see that other groups with different
obsessions act the same.
